Someone Built a Real-Life Mechanical Version of Pong Complete With a Square Ball

A real-life version of Pong would actually be just a ping-pong table since that’s what the classic video game was based on. But a bunch of clever hackers in Uruguay have succeeded in making a real-life version of the video game that’s still played using a pair of rectangular paddles and a square ball bouncing back and forth.

Led by Daniel Perdomo, the group claims to have learned everything they needed to build this creation—including the mechanical engineering and all of the electronics—through YouTube videos, Google searches, and endless forum discussions.

It took two entire years to build, mostly because it was all done in their spare time, but the results appear to be worth all the effort. The game is still played using large spinning paddles, which was part of the appeal of the original video game version of Pong, and the table even has a curvy retro ‘70s feel to it, making it the perfect addition to your parent’s basement which hasn’t been redecorated in 40 years.
